Kate Winslet - Good Morning America

Kate Winslet appeared on the Good Morning America show on March 27, 2012, to discuss her new book, "The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism" and her new charity Golden Hat Foundation.

Kate Winslet established the Golden Hat Foundation a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers for people with autism around the world. Compelled during her narration of a documentary entitled A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back to Autism about a young Icelandic boy named Keli living with autism, Kate became motivated to make a difference. Upon meeting Keli’s mother Margret, Kate was deeply moved by her far-reaching journey to find a way for her nonverbal son to learn to communicate. Her experience motivated the establishment of the Golden Hat Foundation. “The Golden Hat” was the title of a poem written by 12 year old Keli Thorsteinsson.

Kate Also discusses how and why she decided to make the book, The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism. This book, now on sale at goldenhatfoundation.org features one hundred intimate and candid self-portraits by stars from film, television, music, sports, and fashion, including George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Kobe Bryant, Justin Timberlake, Leonardo DiCaprio, Julianne Moore, Conan O’Brien, Anna Wintour, and many more. Taken in bathtubs and backyards, inside dressing rooms and on movie sets, these unique snapshots give a behind-the-scenes look at the private worlds of these very public figures.
